When you boil water, it is converted into steam and by cooling this steam can be converted back into water is the condensation process. This entire procedure is called distillation and it is very useful method to remove the impurities among the water. Natural water is contaminated with lots of dissolved minerals and various micro organisms. By boiling the water, you actually kill the micro organisms. The remaining water is simply nothing more than the combination of hydrogen and oxygen which is pure water without any contaminants, minerals or extra gases. pH level of distilled water reaches almost to 7.

We learn through the distillation process that elements found in water which causes contamination are heavier than molecules of water. These elements are mostly the part solid material. When water is heated in some distiller, solid materials which have been dissolved in water will still remain in the solid form but water will be converted into steam. Steam is much lighter than these contaminants; hence it will be easy to separate those particles from water through distillation process. Once the water is completely converted into steam, it will be taken out for the process of condensation. This is all about “what is distilled water” and how to obtain it.

Many people ask “can you drink distilled water”, yes of course. It is good to drink but it may give you bland taste. It is tasteless because through distillation you have already removed those particles which develop the original flavor of the natural water. Hence distilled water is pretty safe to drink but it is used mostly while conducting any research in laboratories because for certain researches water purity is more than essential. If natural water is used in the laboratories for the research, it may cause some damages or you may not get the appropriate and required results through your research.
